Privacy policy

The short version
- Your racquets, strings, sessions and notes live on your iPhone. We don’t run accounts for your library and can’t see it.
- A few optional features send data off your iPhone: Friends, the stringer directory, Gut, AI racquet scanning and invites. Each is described below, with exactly what is sent.
- No ads and no tracking. Anonymous usage counts help us improve the app, and you can turn them off. We never sell or share your data for marketing.
On your iPhone
Racquet stores your racquets, string jobs, sessions, match scores, opponents’ names, notes, feel ratings, arm check-ins, your name, age and profile photo on your iPhone. They stay there unless you use one of the features below.
- Camera and photos. When you scan a racquet, the lettering and colours are read on your iPhone. If you’ve turned on AI racquet scanning, a smaller copy is also sent to identify it (see below). Either way, the photo isn’t kept. A profile photo you choose is saved on your iPhone only.
- Arm check-ins are your own notes on how your arm felt. They aren’t medical advice and stay on your iPhone.
- Widgets, reminders and Live Activities are worked out on your iPhone from what you’ve logged. Notifications are scheduled on the device.
- Your stringer. Sending a restring order opens Messages or the share sheet with the text for you to send. Your stringer’s name and number are saved on your iPhone only.
- Backups you export go only where you save them. They aren’t encrypted and include your notes, arm check-ins and opponents’ names.
Apple Health
If you connect Apple Health, Racquet reads your tennis workouts, only to offer them as sessions for you to confirm. If you turn on “Ask after tennis workouts”, Racquet checks for new ones in the background and sends a notification on your iPhone. Racquet never writes to Health.
Health data never leaves your iPhone. It isn’t sent to us, isn’t saved to iCloud, and is never shared, sold or used for advertising. That’s why Apple Health and saving your library to iCloud can’t be used together. Sessions from Health are also never included in what Gut is sent. You can turn off access in Settings › Health › Data Access & Devices.
iCloud
Where available, you can save your library to your own private iCloud database so it stays in step across your devices. It’s stored by Apple under your Apple Account, and we can’t read it. You can turn it off in Profile.
Friends
Only if you make a profile:
- Your profile is a handle and a display name, which other players can see. A private sign-in token stays in your iPhone’s Keychain; we keep only a one-way hash of it.
- No phone number or contacts. Friends find you by your handle. Racquet doesn’t ask for your number or read your contacts.
- Follows, blocks and reports. We store who follows whom and who you’ve blocked. If you report a player, we keep the reason and any details you add, with their handle, until the report is reviewed. The player isn’t told who reported them.
- Deleting your profile in Community removes it, your follows and your blocks straight away.
Stringer directory
Looking up stringers sends the city you pick. Nothing about you is sent. Stringers who apply to be listed give their business details on this website, and agree to them being shown.
Gut, the assistant
Only if you turn it on. When you ask Gut something, your question, recent messages and a summary of your library are sent to our service and to Anthropic, whose Claude model writes the answer. The summary covers your racquets, strings, sessions with ratings, arm check-ins, opponents’ names, notes, and your first name and age if you’ve added them. Sessions from Apple Health aren’t included; your strings’ estimated condition, which counts all your play, is.
It’s used only to answer you, not to train models, and we don’t keep your questions or answers. A random ID for your install, not linked to you, enforces the daily limit. You can turn Gut off in Profile.
AI racquet scanning
Only if you allow it. Racquet asks the first time you scan, and you can change it in Profile › Privacy & data › AI racquet scan. When it’s on, a copy of your racquet photo, scaled down and without location or camera details, is sent to our service and to Anthropic, whose Claude model names the racquet and the colour of its strings. Nothing else about you is sent.
The photo is used only to identify the racquet, not to train models, and we don’t keep the photo or the answer. The same random install ID as Gut enforces a daily limit. With it off, scanning stays entirely on your iPhone.
Purchases and invites
Apple handles payment for Racquet Pro; we never see your payment details. If you use an invite, our referral service receives the App Store transaction ID it needs to confirm the invite and give the reward, and keeps only what it needs to stop rewards being used twice.
This website and the newsletter
If you sign up for the newsletter, your email address is stored with Resend, our email provider, only to send it. Every issue has an unsubscribe link. The site sets no tracking cookies.
Anonymous usage counts
To see what works and where people get stuck, the app sends simple counts: which onboarding pages were seen, that a racquet was added or a session logged, that Gut was used, that the Pro page was shown. Each carries a random ID made for your install, which our analytics provider, TelemetryDeck, scrambles again before storing. They never include your name, email, racquets, sessions, notes or Health data, and aren’t used for advertising or to track you across apps. Turn them off any time in Profile › Privacy & data › Share anonymous usage.
Keeping it, deleting it
- Profile › Privacy & data › Delete all local data clears your library from your iPhone. Deleting the app does the same.
- Data held by our service (a Friends profile, a pending report, an invite record) is kept only while it’s needed. Email us to have anything removed, or to ask what we hold about you.
- Our service runs on servers we rent. Anthropic, Resend and TelemetryDeck process data only to provide the features above.
Children
Racquet isn’t directed at children under 13, and we don’t knowingly collect their data. If you think a child has made a Friends profile, email us and we’ll remove it.
Changes and contact
If this policy changes, we’ll update this page and its date. For questions or requests, email help.racquet@gmail.com.
